1st of all I am totally proud of myself that I learnt to make an Indian snack today!
Pictures were demanded of my momos recipe and hence, today I took pic of all stages

This is Haldiram's Moong ki Daal

Add 1 handful of it and grind it in mixer

Grinding for 2 minutes ONLY will give you this

Now Add Black Pepper,Red Chilly powder,Khatai(Dried Mango) and Dhaniya(Coriander ) Powder

This is 1 and a Half handfull Maida (Refined Flour) with 2 pinch Salt

Add 4 Spoons of Refined Oil

Add some warm water

Mix all and make this

Cover with a Bowl for 15 minutes

In the Moong Daal Mixture add some oil and mix it, it will look like this, this is the filling

Roll your Refined Flour into this shape

Add Filling (Note this is my maid's hand AND not mine:P)

Make it into this shape

Now press it into this shape

Fry in pre heated oil NOTE the khasta is to be fried ONLY @low Flame .Here you can see 1 khasta bursting :( Had to remove it

keep something heavy (aluminium utensil ) in cooker (to raise level of your dish)
keep an aluminium dish on it
put your momos in the dish
take out whistle of the cooker
10 minutes cook on medium flame (for veg momos)
check by inserting a knitting needle or knife in maida portion of momos

here's how you can easily make steamed veg momos (around 10)

Ingredients and Recipe

For Dough
1cup Maida (refined flour)
1tsp castor sugar
1/2tsp salt and
milk

knead it then cover it and refrigerate for 30 minutes

Filling

Heat oil

Add chopped (finely chopped really really finely chopped)

small piece of ginger

2 cloves garlic
1 very small onion

1/2 small carrot

1/2 small capsicum

few spoons of shredded cabbage (optional) (I didn't use it)

2 pinches of salt

pinch of pepper

1 small spoon of soya sauce

Now Saute all for 3-4 minutes

Note: If you like hot food, You may add red chilli in filling

Final Step

Roll Maida (as you roll for gujiyas during holi)

add filling

make them in desired shape

1st Prepare chilli puree

Take 8 dry red chilly (full)
put them in a cup of water for 1 hour ,
then heat it and bring to boil, cool it and run it in a mixer

heat oil
put garlic
when it turns light brown add the chilly puree
mix for 2 minutes on high flame
add salt to taste
add 1 spoon sugar
4 spoons vinegar
simmer for 10 minutes , stir occasionally
it tastes good hot as well as cold

MERRY CHRISTMAS
This recipe is for girls who live in small towns of India and bachelors around the world
I confess I do feel lil selfish while sharing it
But what the hell :D

INGREDIENTS
400 grams of Milkmaid (condensed milk)
100 grams sugar
100 grams home made white butter
25 grams cocoa powder
100-200 grams walnuts

METHOD
Pour and add Milkmaid, sugar, cocoa powder and butter in any heavy bottom pan (even a kadhai will do)
Heat on medium flame and stir CONTINUOUSLY for 20 minutes
When the mixture starts leaving the edges of pan add crushed walnuts
DO NOT HEAT FOR MORE THAN TWO MINUTES once walnuts have been added

Take a greased plate pour the mixture
(A greased plate is a plate on which you have smeared some melted butter on each and every inch of it, so that when you try removing the cut pieces, they come out)
Let it cool for half an hour
Cut into desired shape
EAT

How to make Low Fat 100% Home Made Vegetarian Spaghetti Sauce

Dear Blog Readers,
Wish you a Merry Christmas!
I just experimented and successfully made Vegetarian Spaghetti Sauce.
All ingredients are readily available even in small towns of India
Hope you will try it soon!

FOR
Two (not very hungry) people ;)

INGREDIENTS
250 gms Spaghetti
2 onions finely chopped
2 tomatoes finely chopped
4 dry red chilly (full)
Garlic 6-7 Cloves Finely chopped
salt
pepper
dry pasta seasoning mix
2 teaspoon red chilli sauce
1/2 cup tomato puree (it is made by boiling tomatoes, running them in a mixie and straining the seeds)
oil (try using olive oil for authentic Italian taste)

METHOD TO BOIL SPAGHETTI
First Boil 2.5 litres of water
add 1 teaspoon salt then cook for ten minutes.
Check before pouring. Drain it but do not run it under cold water.

METHOD TO MAKE CHILLY PUREE

Take 4 dry red chilly (full)
put them in a cup of water for 1 hour ,
then heat it and bring to boil, cool it and run it in a mixie

heat oil
put garlic
when it turns light brown add the chilly puree
mix for 2 minutes on high flame

METHOD TO MAKE SAUCE

Heat oil
add onion continue till it turns pinkish brown
add tomato cook for 7-8 minutes
add tomato puree
add chilly sauce and chilly puree
add salt
pepper and dry pasta seasoning mix
if you feel the sauce has become too dry you can add some water (not more than a cup)

FINALLY ADD

boiled spaghetti
do not heat for more than a minute
mix for a minute with lots of love
serve and remember me :)

Went with friends. The diktat which wasn't followed was to dress up dirty and come! Small town and winters and dirty dressing.
A family was sitting next to our seats with 2 young kids, young girl, biwi and ghonchu .. As I sat next to the ghonchu there was laughter and a child screamed Mama apke paas to sach min ladki bhaith gai! Which made the ghonchu smile stupidly and made me sit in literally half seat.
In front of me sat a sardar with a huge pagdi which cut some portion of the screen.
In middle of film when I complained to my friends saying it's huge. Some heard the full sentence, others just got the last part "it's huge" and all of them got stuck on the word huge .. With one asking out loud, where? I didn't see anything huge which scene did I miss?
Now for the film, I liked it for its direction, colours, one liners and yes I a Vidya Balan hater will say it; Vidya Balan! I can't think of any other actress who could ve done justice to the role and be so comfortable in fat+skimpy clothes.
We all know it's a man's world there is no denying the fact that even today, even in the west, rules of sex are different for women and men.
No one asked the actor why he did a raunchy number with Silk, but everyone saw Silk as a slut.
(of course slut remains to be defined as "a woman with the morals of a man" or in simple words to borrow Salman Khan's song, "ladkiyan kare to saala character dheela hain")

I finally got a link for Ravanan with english subtitles but as luck would have had it only 4 out of 13 parts had them. After that I just watched the film without understanding what the characters were saying. A lot of guess work and an year and a half old memory of Hindi Ravan and 13 parts later I write this post.

While watching I couldn't help but compare Abhishek to Vikram, but writing about this would be futile. For reality is there is NO comparison.

Vikram looks Veeraiye in each and every scene. He breathes Veeraiye . Anger, Passion, Love for Aishwarya, Murderous desire for her husband (played by a very hot Prithviraj) , Compassion for forgiving him in spite of all he had done just because of his love for Aishwarya.. it's all there in his EYES.

He makes liking a naxalite as easy as pie..

A task at which Abhishek Bachchan miserably failed..
He got shot in the neck on the day of his sister's marriage
His sister got raped , committed suicide because of sexual assault by policemen.
His brother got murdered by Aishwarya's husband

BUT
He didnot shoot her husband when he had an opportunity to
He didnot, neither did any naxalites even touch Aishwarya

Last Scene of the movie (click for link ) -- (Song that plays in the background is Naan Varuvaen which I am given to believe means I will come back and touch you) --shows what Vikram is made of. The split second look of contentment (at 5:10 - 5:17) on his face because Aishwarya tried saving him as her husband shot him is out of this world.

I wonder out loud if any Bollywood hero is capable of that look.As expected None comes to mind.Vikram is not Vikram but Veeraiye and that's what South Indian Actors are made of

We don't have any one like them in Bollywood and why does Bollywood not get them up north?
Because it's not that the viewers will not accept them , but because once they are here, there will be no takers for Hrithik, Amir, Shahrukh, Sanjay and other psuedos actors

One of the oft-quoted reasons that has never ceased to irk me is that girls are not brought up as they used to be in the past or as they ought to be. It is lamented that in the past girls were brought up “very strictly” to be docile, obedient, patient, subservient, tolerant and never demanding. Today, they are raised “just like boys.”

Or, should they have no dreams at all other than getting married, staying married and bearing children? I do not know what it is to bring up girls “just like boys”.

If a girl is brought up to respect herself, uphold her dignity, cherish her dreams and be happy, then she will certainly fulfil with élan the roles assigned to her by nature. She should be brought up to be a fine human being, and not a fine woman who can be easily ‘gloved' into the mould prepared for her by social convention. There is no need to train a girl to be subservient, to suffer in silence, to be meek and humble and bear her lot without complaints in order to make a marriage work. Instead, she should be motivated to be a person of integrity, with a keen sense of social values and a sense of responsibility. We should bear in mind that a girl is not a wife waiting to happen. She is first and foremost a human being, and therefore must be brought up to be a good and self-sustaining person.

It also made me wonder whether wedlock is truly marriage or bondage if the wife alone suffers in silence and willingly obliges every single wish and whim of her husband and his family, and endures all humiliation stoically and uncomplainingly. Will there be true happiness in such a marriage? If this is what made marriages in the past work, then they should be called by any name other than marriage.

While still on the subject, there is another question: should boys be brought up as they were in the past. Even today there are parents who send their boys to the so-called reputed schools that are believed to be good, for the fee is sky-high, and daughters to the local school that offer free education. Boys are brought up to believe that they are the centre of the family; that marriage is a give-and-take affair wherein he is the taker and she the giver; that he is the sole consumer in the trade of marriage, and she the commodity — not just the commodity but also a slave who comes free with the purchase. And to think that marriage is the only trade where the purchaser is not the privileged owner!

So I bought a bunch of Rajnigandha from the market the other day. I placed my entire nose in the bunch but the flowers didn't smell. The shopkeeper assured that they would at night.
I wasn't sure what he said was the truth but nevertheless got it home.
The result:
Just 10-15 Mins after 5 PM the flowers start emitting what can only be called divine.
Every day after 5!
And now that winters ve set in, and the doors and windows are close just one small bunch has my room smelling divine the whole night!

The song begins with the word Rangrez. One may have noticed Tanu Weds Manu too had a song "Oh rangrez mere" Had two versions. One sung beautifully by Wadali Bandhu and other horribly by Javed Ali (of kajrare fame)

Rangrez means one who colours. (A community of dyers who converted to Islam came to be known as Rangrez). After partition they moved to Porkistan Though some good ones remained in India (we are proud of you)

1.Strawberry Body Polish Price Rs. 445

Its pulpy. Too pulpy and gets accumulated with time.

I got so bored that had to throw it. In the beginning I did like it but may be quantity is too much.

2.Satsuma Bath & Shower Gel Rs. 325

I liked it in the beginning, it was so orangy and all but again got so bored that gave it away.

3.White Musk Sumptuous Silk Shower Gel Rs. 875

Don't buy it. It has a weird purple bottle and it makes you feel as if you are bathing with some alien soap. It smells yuck , and doesn't do any magic in the shower. I used it only once

4.Sweet Lemon Shower Gel Rs. 325

I LOVE IT I will buy another bottle next summers. Its soft on skin but the mausambi in it leaves you squeaky clean. Plus it smells divine. A must have in summer months 10 on 10

5. Shea Butter Shower Cream Price on request
Very creamy , very mild, non perfumed .loved it

6. Coconut Cleansing gel Price on request
As we don't get coconut shower gels in India, its a refreshing new gel. Its creamy and smells of sweet coconut. Caution You may feel like eating the bottle or some coconut sweets/ cake :D

7. Mango Cleansing Gel Price on request
It cleans well, I personally didn't like the particular mango fragrance they have used. But others may give it a try and may end up loving it too.

As the name suggests, its pretty gentle . Soft and creamy. I have a doubt if it's even cleaning because I didn't feel very fresh after using it. It has a mild creamy effect. Should be used only when not very dirty. Ideal for winter mornings

2. Vitamin E Eye Cream I bought it for 995 but it now comes for Rs. 695 !!
Its creamy, gets sucked in . It's just about fine.

3.Vitamin E Body Butter Rs. 845
Vitamin E range has no added perfume and this quality works well in body butter. After a warm winter bath , applying it is heavenly

4.Vitamin E Moisture Cream again bought it for 995 but it now comes for Rs. 695 It didn't give any glow to my face after application but did moisturise well

5.Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream Rs. 795
This one is really thick! Don't use it unless its really cold . Its thick but gets absorbed . I ♥ it

6. Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream Rs. 795
Its thicker than Day Cream so use when sleeping in AC else wait for real winters to set it. As with all night creams apply way before you actually get in bed.

7. Vitamin E SPF 15 Moisture Lotion I bought it for lil over a thousand bucks , its now only of Rs. 845. You can use it even in summers . I like Vitamin C sun screen more than this one but would rate this as best product in Vit E range

Of late we have seen a few Jugni songs in mainstream Bollywood movies.

It started with Oye Lucky Lucky Oye , the song was "Jugni Chad Di A.C Car"
The song gave the impression of a girl who wanted comfort in life.
This song in rustic punjabi voice of Des Raj Lakhani found many takers (such as the writer who doesn't understand a word of Punjabi)

Next came "O jugni notayi nakhre waali, saare pindda di a paali" from the Film Tanu Weds Manu sung powerfully by Mika.
In the song the listener once again met a girl full of life, loved by many "Jugni bachiyan di, favorite hai" (loved by children)

And now the latest entrant is a jugni sung by one of most popular Punjabi Singers and Lyricist Babbu Maan.
The song goes "Jugni dum sahib da bhardi Par eh pyar yaar nu kardi oye"
So we meet another girl now who knows what she wants and kind of symbolises modern Indian woman.

So Who is JUGNI?
She entices men, is loud , is loved by family and friends!

I write the following based on what I understood from a Google Search

Jugni took birth in 1906 was created by two folk singers Bishna (a hindu) and Manda (a muslim) (they later became freedom fighters and were martyred) from Majha area (modern Amritsar)
Jubilee (Torch of the Queen of England to mark 50 th year of ruling ) made rounds in India at that time. Festivities took place where ever the torch went and both Bishna and Manda started singing songs (Jubilee became Jugni)
The songs became popular and thus was born
JUGNI later popularized by Sufi singers.

The word has now come to mean A female Firefly
and
Our Jugni perhaps is a girl who lights up any room she is in
In all Jugni songs the song is from the perspective of a man who has observed Jugni up close and is smitten enough to write a song on her
The lyrics don't convey the usual beauty of the girl (like their counterpart in Urdu) but are a sort of a tease
In my opinion its as if the song conveys
She does that, She does THAT and she is irrepressible
And this makes the writer conclude that from a Sufi perspective it conveys a soul that is irrepressible from worldly Maya.

now studying was all that I did
